K-LOVE Suicide Prevention Booklet

Design Tools: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign

Project Overview
I undertook the design of a specialized booklet for K-LOVE Radio, specifically targeting their listeners who might be experiencing suicidal thoughts. The overarching objective for this project was to craft a design that conveyed a sense of thoughtfulness and hope, without appearing overly cheerful or dismissive of the seriousness of the topic.

Strategy and Execution
To achieve this delicate balance, my design approach centered on two key elements: imagery and adherence to established brand guidelines.

• Imagery Selection: I meticulously chose images that depicted serene natural landscapes or calming cityscapes. The intent behind this selection was to evoke feelings of peace, expansiveness, and possibility, offering a gentle visual counterpoint to potentially overwhelming internal struggles. Care was taken to avoid overly vibrant or “happy” imagery that could inadvertently trivialize the reader’s emotional state. Instead, the chosen visuals aimed to inspire contemplation and a sense of connection to the world outside, subtly suggesting that difficult times can pass and beauty still exists.

• Brand Consistency: Maintaining K-LOVE Radio’s established brand identity was paramount. I rigorously adhered to their specific brand guidelines, which included utilizing their designated typefaces and color palettes. This not only ensured a cohesive look and feel with K-LOVE’s other materials but also leveraged the familiarity and trust listeners already associate with the brand. Furthermore, the selection of imagery was carefully vetted to be consistent with visuals previously used by K-LOVE, reinforcing a sense of authenticity and established support.

Outcome
The final design successfully met the project’s goals. It resulted in a booklet that is both empathetic and encouraging, providing a resource for listeners in crisis while maintaining a professional and consistent brand presence for K-LOVE Radio. The thoughtful integration of imagery and strict adherence to brand standards created a supportive and hopeful communication tool for a vulnerable audience.
