Design Tools: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
During my contract with SBL Entertainment, an entertainment booking company, I had the opportunity to design a variety of ad packs for each of their shows. Each ad pack contained 10-15 graphics, depending on the venue, and were used for both print and digital media.
Many shows only provided photos of the band/singer/comedian so I had full creative freedom over the ad pack design.
Due dates generally dictated how detailed my designs were, as some shows required a quick turnaround announcement—sometimes within a few hours—while others weren't due for several days. In both situations, I always began with researching the show, their content (music, stand-up comedy, etc), and any art they've previous used. This helped to point me in the right direction for my own designs.
Below are a few of my favorite designs.
FEATURED PROJECT - MARIA MULDAUR
I'm especially proud of my ad pack for Maria Muldaur because Maria herself emailed me directly to tell me how much she loved them! I had the opportunity to spend some extra time on this because the deadline was farther out. Like a lot of our ad packs, only a few photos were provided and one gave me some pin-up vibes. Using a variety of filters, textures, and actions, I was able to achieve a more vibrant, semi-illustrated version. From there, I pulled some colors from Maria's dress and designed around her. I gave the overall design a slightly worn look with some fading and overlay texture and used a lovely brush script typeface for her name and complimentary typeface for the information that plays into the tropical/floral aspect of her overall outfit.
FEATURED PROJECT - LUNAFISH
Another ad pack I loved working on was for LunaFish. The photo used was the only high quality photo I was provided. I played into it's 60's and 70's vibe and went with a orange sunburst background and added some weathering and scratched paper texture. I chose a fun typeface for their band name and went with a simple, bold typeface for the show information.
Many shows also provided their own fully designed art—posters, social media images, etc—so I only needed to adjust their design to other needed sizes. This Tye Tribbett ad pack is one that was nice to work with.
